  • Zellers Canada Coupon Policy

    Zellers Canada

Here is the Zellers Canada coupon policy:

    Guiding Principle

Each time a coupon is presented for redemption, the Zellers Cashier will be required to read the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) on each individual coupon. This must be done to validate acceptance/ redemption criteria, and when applicable, the cashier will follow the acceptance rules established by Zellers (see below).

As a retailer, we agree to comply with the T&Cs stated on the coupons. The below ‘Zellers Acceptance/Redemption Rules’ are expected to clarify what we will allow, and what we will NOT allow (related to couponing at Zellers).

    Zellers Acceptance/Redemption Rules

Provided that the coupon presented is still valid (has not expired),

    A. We will allow customers to:

    1. Redeem 1 coupon per item in a sales transaction (ratio 1:1 for each qualifying item) i.e. if you purchase 6 cans of tuna, you are entitled to redeem up to 6 coupons. Only one coupon per item is allowed.
    2. Redeem a coupon that exceeds the current selling value (regular, sale, clearance or blue ticket price) of the item; provided that all coupons combined do not exceed the value of all items being purchased in the sales transaction. Note: if only 1 item is being purchased, and the value of the coupon exceeds the selling value of the item, the value of the coupon will be reduced to match the price of the item (before taxes). Per B2 below, cash back is not allowed.
    3. Redeem coupons for ‘free’ items (which will be exempt from taxes).
    4. Redeem coupons towards items that they hold a valid Raincheck for.
    5. Redeem internet coupons (obtained and printed from reputable internet sites) for a $ value off ONLY (internet coupons for free items will NOT be accepted).
    6. Redeem hydro coupons (only if Zellers is listed as a participating retailer i.e. on the vendor site).
    7. Redeem a coupon towards an item in a sale which is being further discounted (at transaction level) on senior’s day, customer appreciation days, for credit discount offers or when using a SPC Card (Student Purchase Card).
    8. Redeem coupons that provide a Canadian mailing address (for reimbursement) in the T&Cs.
    9. Redeem Social Media Coupons (obtained and printed from a reputable social media site such as facebook.com/zellerscanada).
    10. Redeem coupons towards items that have been ‘price matched’ (per the guidelines of our price match guarantee noted in our weekly circulars).

    B. We will NOT allow:

    1. Coupon stacking (use multiple coupons towards the purchase of a single item in a sales transaction).
    2. Cash back (if the coupon amount exceeds the current selling value of the item).
    3. Redemption of expired coupons.
    4. Facsimiles (photocopies) or reproductions of any coupons.
    5. Redemption of coupons valid in the US only or any other countries.
    6. Redemption of coupons towards products that are not explicitly illustrated or described on the actual coupon.
    7. Redemption of coupons presented to the cashier on a portable handheld device (i.e. smart phone, iPad etc) unless the offer is explicitly communicated as such to support a Zellers offer on facebook.com/zellerscanada.
    8. Redemption of mail-in rebate coupons.
    9. Redemption of coupons if the T&C states ‘do not accept without a dot-scan barcode below the expiry date’ and the coupon presented does not display the barcode in the noted spot.

    1. cheryl says:

thank you for the coupon policies. zellers has always given people problem in the past . this is not something knew the coupons is just one of many problems at zellers stores.I have not even gone to zellers in the last 10 years because every time i went there to buy something that was suppose to be on sell they would say that it was not on sell . i got fed up with them so stopped shopping there for a very long time. went there for the first time in a long time and had to get the girl that was working there to scan the stuff that i picked up to make sure it was going to come up at the right price and it did .maybe the store will inprove.

    2. Mrs January says:

Thanks for the heads up, Louise. I didn’t know that Zellers sold those!

    3. Louise says:

I forgot to say it was the Zellers in Fredericton NB :)

    4. Louise says:

I went there yesterday with an internet printed Dizolve coupon and a coupon I got from a free sample of Purex. They took both of them with a smile and told me I got a good deal. Of course it could’ve been the cashier but I’ll be looking for her next time! It can be extremely frustrating to use coupons but we must keep our chins up :)

    5. Mrs January says:

Thanks for the heads up, Jennifer! I find it very difficult using printable coupons at Zellers lately.

    6. Jennifer says:

I went to the Zellers at metrotown in burnaby,bc today. Do not go there if you have Internet printed coupons. They would not accept my Pepcid Ac $2 or my listerine zero $3. They said that they no longer accept Internet printed coupons. I asked for the store managers name so I can follow up on their store policies .

    7. Cassie says:

RT – Now that is the most bizarre reason for not accepting a coupont hat I’ve ever heard! It’s even worse than the “you have to buy the ANY product to use this coupon” line that I have received! I hope something is done about your terrible experience!

    8. RT says:

After my experience at Zellers today, I’m NEVER stepping foot there even if they are giving away their stuff for free!!!

I had 9 travel size Gillette Shave Gel that I wanted to use the $5.00 WUB3 coupons for. I was also buying other things. I get to the cash and I give the cashier all my coupons before she starts scanning my stuff. She just tossed them aside and scanned all of my items. Then she looked at my coupons and said that since they are in English they are not acceptable in Quebec??!! Before I had a chance to say anything the manager comes over and completely agrees with the cashier!! I explained (as calmly as I could) that the coupons say they are redeemable in Canada and that we are in Canada. I offered to translate the coupons for them and they refused. The manager then said that I could not use coupons on travel size items. I told her that the coupons did not specify any minimum size. At this point I got the feeling that both the cashier and the manager did not understand a word of English. They both refused to honor any of my coupons because they were in English!!!!

I left all my items and left. I took their names but I don’t think anything will be done.
I can’t wait till Target takes over!

    9. Cassie says:

dani_shay – Omg, sounds like that cashier had something stuck up her rump! So rude!

Naomi – I don’t like this policy either. The store does get the full value of coupons back, so they should be accepting them at full value. If this is the way they are handling coupons, they are going to lose alot of customers.

teachermum – Isn’t it awful how up and down things are? I really hate that!

Ashley – We have recently found a really nice cashier at Zellers and she always seems to be working when we are there, so we have had no problems lately. She said she thinks using coupons is awesome! I love it when cashiers get excited for you! It definetely does depend on the cashier that you get (and the mood that they’re in), unfortunetely.

cabshiraz – I also don’t understand why most retailers refuse to give the full coupon value. As far as I know, only Walmart and Giant Tiger give full value.

    10. Mark says:

Heh, I wonder if it would be worth replying to their reply with a link to here and to SC with attachments of their competitors more liberal coupon policies and telling them to get with it!

    11. cabshiraz says:

I rarely shop at Zellers and with this new coupon rule, I probably ever won’t. I can never find a salesperson to assist me. And when I eventually find someone, they are always so rude and grumpy, I wonder why I bothered. My dad walked out of the store for the same reason. And I was told by a couple of cashiers earlier this year that they do not price match, so I never tried.
And I really don’t understand why retailers don’t give out full price for the coupon if they get back all of their money… it doesn’t make sense to me. Isn’t WalMart the only one to do this?

    12. Ashley says:

Wow their policy sucks! I don’t usually have issues with using coupons at Zellers. I almost always go to the same location and my fave cashier is there quite often, and she uses coupons too, so she knows what she’s doing and doesn’t give me a hard time. I have heard sooo many other people say they have had issues at Zellers, and I think it really depends on the store and the cashier.

    13. teachermum says:

My biggest problem is training perhaps? For quite some time I never had an issue with any coupon, price matching, SPC etc. Then a month or two ago, after ringing in an order of mostly pricematched items she told me I couldn’t use the coupon because it would be free and was already pricematched. HUH? I told her I did it ALL the time, she told me the manager had told her of changes within the past two weeks, I had her void the entire order and left. I checked with customer service and it was news to the girl on duty that day…then there was a shoplifting episode and a man with low blood sugar…so I didn’t pursue it further-the manager was running out to the parking lot~!

Then I go back a week or so later and got my favourite little cashier and had no issues doing exactly as I always have–in fact, she starts talking to me before I even get to unloading while she is dealing with the customer in front of me…you have pricematches, right? and coupons…and you always bring your own bags…Geesh, I doubt I’m in there once a month!

Last week I got the first girl again but she remembered me (she really did feel bad about my cancelling my order) and said she checked something or other and put everything through-price matches, coupons, SPC…there were no overages that time, but I did have 4 nivea somethings for $2 and $2 coupons…this was as my little cashier (I swear she is about 4’8″!) walked by on her way to somewhere else and said a friendly hello to me as if we were great friends!

I can hardly wait to see what happens next time…..

      Susan

    14. Naomi says:

I don’t like their coupon policy. “If a coupon value is higher than the cost of an item, then you may not be able to use that coupon to purchase that particular item.” They are getting the money back, why do they care? I’m still gonna try to do it, I did it before and sometimes worked. You just have to remember the people that did it! That’s what I do!

    15. dani_shay says:

I’ve had the most horrible time using coupons at Zellers- one location in particular. If I can use my coupons somewhere else, I do. Otherwise, I’m sweating as I go through the checkout lol. This one cashier was a pain in the a$$.. I was trying to use just one of those P&G coupons for women’s Gillette toiletry items (save $7-i think, WUB 3) SInce I was buying 3 of the least expensive displayed options on the coupon she complained to her supervisor that I shouldn’t be allowed to use it. Of course, she was told to accept it and my 3 deodorant were free :) I also had a full price coupon (no $ limit on it) from Kelloggs and she was complaining that I shouldn’t be able to use because I was using it for a ‘Jumbo’ box of Vector Cereal. Zellers really is the worst for coupons :(
