I watched a report on food/make up/pet food etc at discount dollar store.. as well as checking the expiry date check where they are from. A lot of stuff like that is imported, particularly from Asia and something the ingredients may not be what you want.

I don’t buy make up there because of my sensitive skin however i have bought food there and haven’t had a problem.

I use dollarama now for craft stuff, decorations and kitchen stuff.. i do love dollarama

We have recently had a number of new Dollarama stores open in our city. I love buying body wash there for the the shower. A bottle is a dollar and the same size bottle next door at WalMart is $8. The only thing that we have purchased food wise are potato chips and the odd chocolate bar. All expiry dates were fine, just like anywhere else.

We recently discovered LW – Liquidation World as well. They had a ton of cool cheap stuff, including grocery staple items. Anyone else been there?

I used to work at Dollarama few years ago and let me tell you that DO NOT buy any baby foods, pet foods or any foods(including cereal, bread, even chocolate bars). By experience, it is NOT recommended to buy ANY food at any dollar store.
One time, a district manager from Dollarama asked to fill the shelves with EXPIRED foods. I am telling you, their food ARE NOT approved by the safety environment food industry. My neighbour’s cat died a year ago because my neighbour bought some cat food from Dollarama…and 2 years ago my brother in law and his wife got some baby food for their daughter and my niece was taking by emergency to the hospital because DOLLARAMA doesn’t care about their items including babies product. My niece got some food poison from this dollar store.
I have all the contact with Dollarama, including the president of Dollarama.
So, please DO NOT BUY any food from ANY dollar store. THEY ARE NOT SAFE!

If you want to save money on food, I suggested food basics, walmart or even loblaws.

I needed a new combo lock for my gym locker and found one at Dollarama for 1.50. They also had large vacuum bags for storing linens, blankets, etc. for 1.25 each which is a great price.

Lori, you are not a freak. I am the same way. I cannot bring myself to buy food there, even if it is a name brand. The only food items I buy at dollar stores are chocolate bars and some name brand candy.

Am I a freak or does it freak other people out to buy food at the dollarama? I know it’s likely fine, it’s being sold there but I can’t get past it mentally.
