  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #18 Update

Did you get your curtains/blinds cleaned today?

    I didn’t.

I know, I know – it’s my challenge and I didn’t even complete it. I don’t even have a valid excuse. I had every intention of completing this task today, but then reality hit: it is a holiday weekend and I wanted to spend time with my family.

It’s not often that my husband gets time off work and the last thing I wanted to do was spend the day cleaning the blinds and curtains when I could be spending time with him and the kids.

We have blinds on every single window in our home (we rent and are not allowed to get rid of them). That’s 9 windows with blinds – and 4 of those also have curtains.

I did complete something though – I wiped down 4 sets of blinds (the ones in our living room). They were the dustiest, so I figured I should at least clean those.

Then, my family and I spent the day together. The cleaning can wait – we only get so much time with our loved ones.

3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #18

Spring cleaning is in full swing and since I’ve been resting for 6 weeks, taking care of a newborn, this house has gotten a bit out of control. I’m very eager to get it clean and organized for the summer!

I plan on tackling 1 spring cleaning task every day (except Sundays), for 3 weeks. They will be kitchen tasks, bedroom tasks and around the house tasks.

I hope you’ll join me in this process!

    Here is Task #18:

Wash all of your window treatments.

Wash all of your curtains and wipe down any blinds you have.

Replace your heavy window treatments with lighter ones, if necessary.

Come back later tonight for an update on my progress with this task.

  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #17 Update

I have been looking forward to today’s task all week!

There have been quite a few times when we’ve been out and needed something that we didn’t have with us in our van, so I wanted to fix that.

No before photos, because somehow, our van was actually pretty clean. It just needed a quick vacuum and some more organization.

We used to have 2 small reusable bags that held some extra diapers, wipes and emergency items, but we now have this fantastic bin:

    Inside we have the following:
    - 2 Towels (For big messes – usually made by our dog!)
    - Blanket
    - First Aid Kit
    - Extra Swaddling Blanket
    - Extra Clothes for the Kids
    - 1 Bag of Emergency Gear
    - 1 Bag of Toddler Entertainment, Water, Diapers & Wipes
    - 1 Bin with Odds & Ends

This is what is in the wipes container:
    - Hand Sanitizer
    - Baby Powder
    - Extra Grocery Bags (For dirty diapers or clothing)
    - Toilet Seat Covers & Bathroom Tissue (You never know when you might need these!)
    - Small Bag of Snacks

Here is what you can find inside the 2 small bags:

The bin sits nicely in the back of our van. I keep my reusable bags in a large bag and it hangs on a hook. Any time I keep them on the floor they fall out, so I like to hang them.

Our centre console just holds facial tissue (and some napkins underneath).

The only thing in our glove compartment is our car manual. I want to put an umbrella in there as well, but I couldn’t seem to find one today.

I also keep a few books for Elliott in the back pocket of one of the seats. These help to keep him occupied on longer road trips.

Oh, and just for fun, here’s me vacuuming the van before I organized it:

    Here is Task #17:

De-clutter, clean and organize your vehicle.

It’s time to get your vehicle ready for summer! Vehicles are an extension of our home, so they need to be cleaned as well.

Take everything out and get rid of whatever doesn’t need to be in there. Vacuum the floor and seats and wipe down the dashboard and other, easy to reach areas.

Then, put everything that belongs back inside in an organized fashion. Here is a great example of an organized vehicle.

  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #16 Update

I like to wash all of our pillows every spring to freshen them up, so that was my task for today.

We have 4 pillows on our bed and some extras for guests. Elliott has 2 pillows as well, but we wash them every few weeks, since they tend to get dirty faster.

I throw them, two at a time, into our washing machine on the “light wash” setting.

3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #16 Update

I usually air-dry our pillows after they have been washed, but sometimes I will throw them into the dryer for a little bit, if I am in a hurry.

I had plenty of time today, so I let them air-dry.

Our bedding is the same all year round (duvet with a cover), so I didn’t need to swap that out. I did pack away some of our heavier blankets (for guests) and replaced them with light ones, though. I keep them in our hall closet until we have company stay overnight.

  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #15 Update

I spent an hour cleaning out our kitchen cabinets this afternoon.

There were only a few that were really dirty.

    Spice/Baking Cupboard: Before

The cupboard above the stove holds our toaster and it was a horror show up there. Crumbs all over the place.

3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #15 Update

    Before

I wiped it clean with a wet rag and it was as good as new. I also cleaned out the toaster to help prevent future messes.

    After

Our main cupboards that hold all of our dishes were fairly clean, so I didn’t have to do any scrubbing once I took the dishes out. A simple wipe in each cupboard was all that was necessary.

We keep our oils and vinegars in a lower cabinet and wow, was it ever filthy. I blame the balsamic. That stuff makes one heck of a mess.

The other really dirty cupboard was the one under the sink. This is where we keep our garbage and recycling bins, so they get pretty messy (I clean them on a weekly basis).

The rest of the cabinets weren’t cleaned because they didn’t need it.

The top of our refrigerator was a big mess as well. It was so dusty up there. I just wiped it clean and now it sparkles. Much, much better!
