    Hot Dog Salad

I have to admit this does hot a strange note with me, but thinking back to my childhood KD and hot dogs this looks WAY better for you!
I feel the need to point out that nutritional value isn’t everything and that iceburg lettuce has wonderful anti-inflammatory properties :)

    2. Jyl says:

I’m actually not a big hot dog fan but I can handle them fried or barbequed. My mom actually used to cut them up little and put them in spaghetti sauce. It was really good.

Cassie – I like Iceberg lettuce. Don’t listen to any negativity on here. Your website is my favorite. :)

A weight problem does not necessarily mean a health problem, and a health problem does not necessarily mean a weight problem, Jen.

She said it’s a nice meal to have during July/Aug. I don’t think I’d eat it either but come on! I’m sure not EVERY meal everyone eats here is 100% healthy! Maybe you get a Big Mac once a week and this is her equivalent! She posts her meal plan and grocery trips – she buys other fruit/vegetable and she posts photos of herself and her son and neither have a weight problem which is more than most people in Canada can say

You can’t please everyone and your not saying that we have to eat it. Cassie is just sharing ideas and lets be honest 99% are pretty awesome. so lets keep any negative comments to ourselves. so unecessary.

    6. Lori says:

I wonder how it would taste if you substitued the lettuce for boiled cabbage?

      Funny that “Annonymous” is annonymous….lol

Keep the posts coming Cassie….they are great, but you can’t please everyone!

    7. Steph says:

To each their own, I wouldn’t eat that though!

And for those who are saying this is a good way to get kids eating more vegetables – there is almost zero nutrition in iceberg lettuce. You might as well feed your kid cardboard.

    8. Erin's mom says:

sounds like a neat way to get my kids to eat more salad. I’d add more types of veggies …. tomatoes, cucumbers etc.

My kids love it when I make homemade mac and cheese with cut up weiners and frozen veggies added in. Its amazing how you can hide vegatables in kids favourites.

I also remember eating “Weans and Beiners” as a kid. Can’t remember why we called it that, but it stuck.

    9. Liz says:

wow…I was pretty sure this was a joke …now I’m not so sure. There is absolutely no nutritional value in hot dogs or iceberg lettuce

    10. Rose says:

Annonymous: you keep leaving such nasty responses. Maybe this website isn’t for you! Don’t you have anything better to do with your time? Honestly!!

    11. Krista says:

      Nice quick meal Cassie.

Good way to get children to eat veggies with hot dogs.

Noticed that there is a new hot dog (Simply Natural??)out without sodium nitrate and with the ingredients on the package, I can identify the words. LOL.

      Have a good long weekend.

    12. Betty says:

I remember my Mom making a similar salad years ago. As far as cheap goes, as long as it’s not the chicken wieners it’s ok. I know hot dogs aren’t good for you but once in a while I get a hankering for them. Besides if you knew how they made all our food, you would probably decide you’d rather starve to death than eat. Life is too short to enjoy something so simple as hot dogs. (just thinking about how my grandparents used to make their own cold cuts is almost enough to turn anybody off but it sure tasted great!!!)

    13. Ashley H says:

This looks good, I may try it out! Reminds me of meals my mom used to make when I was kid like mac n’cheese with cut up hot dogs, or baked beans with cut up hot dogs. Yummm!! :)

@Anonymous: You’re entitled to your own opinion. However, something can be cheap AND good too. Obviously Cassie and her son enjoy this meal, if you had read the post.

    14. Annonymous says:

      that looks absolutely disgusting…

I understand its cheap, but why would you do that to your self? you have to have a balance between cheap, and good..
