    Peanut Butter Recipe

Homemade peanut butter is something I have wanted to make myself for awhile now. I even bought a bag of peanuts… but I was still way too nervous to try to make it. What if I tried to make peanut butter and it didn’t work? I would’ve wasted all of those peanuts (and peanuts aren’t cheap!).

Something came over me yesterday when I was cleaning out my kitchen cupboards and found the bag of peanuts. I decided to try homemade peanut butter once and for all.

    Here are the ingredients:

    Peanut Butter

That’s right, just peanuts. No salt, no oil, no sugar. Peanuts only. A food processor is necessary too.

Put all of the peanuts into your food processor.

Attach the lid, pulse a few times and then let it go for about 4 minutes.

    DIY Peanut Butter

The peanuts will turn into crumbs, a fine powder and then it will start clumping. Finally, it will turn into smooth peanut butter. Just like this:

Put it into your container of choice and refrigerate up to 2 weeks. You can keep it at room temperature on your kitchen counter, as well, but it won’t last as long (I don’t recommend doing this if your house is very warm).

Homemade peanut butter in under 5 minutes. It couldn’t get much easier. Or more delicious.

Agree with the comment about using unsalted. The peanuts used are salted and can have more salt than peanut butter would.

We only buy peanut butter that has nothing else added besides unsalted peanuts (Adams or Presidents Choice depending on pricing). We have cost compared to unsalted roasted peanuts. The peanut butter almost always comes out less expensive. The unsalted roasted peanuts are less available than salted ones and that may play into the price comparison (less opportunities for sale prices). While the peanut butter does go on sale regularly.

If you have cost compared salted peanuts to be cheaper than unsalted peanuts (and the salted peanuts to be cheaper than store bought, peanut only prepared peanut butter), then you could consider getting the salted peanuts, rinsing the salt off and patting dry.

I have a blender, would that work instead of a food processor?

Thank you for this tip. I love peanut butter and usually buy the Adams natural peanut butter brand that costs me five dollars.

I always buy peanut butter that is just peanuts. I suppose this would be much cheaper….but don’t have a food processer. Anyone have success using other appliences?? I have a really great wand mixer/chopper (swedish brand can’t remember what it is).

Just wondering what size bag of peanuts you used. I’d like to know so I can do a cost comparison along with a taste test. The recipe says a yield of 1.50-2 cups but I’m unsure how many cups of peanuts would be in the bag in the picture. Thanks!

If you buy the peanuts still in the shell and do the extra work yourself it can be cheaper (but isn’t always).

So happy to see this post! My wife and I switched to homemade PB last year and will never go back to the store-bought stuff. So easy to make and so delicious! Budget-friendly, too. We either get peanuts at Walmart (Tasty Joes, I believe? Good deal) or Bulk Barn (especially when theres a $3 off $10 coupon).

Thank you for spreading (no pun intended) the good word!

Great alternative to preservative-laden peanut butter from the store. But maybe using unsalted peanut butter would be kinder on our bodies :)
      Thanks for the inspiration!

Bulk Barn has a machine where you can buy as little or as much peanut butter as you want. Great when they have coupons too.
