    Peppermint Hot Chocolate

I used to always buy hot chocolate mix from the grocery store every winter because I didn’t know just how simple it was to make myself.

One day a friend of mine showed me a website with a bunch of different hot chocolate recipes. I tried many of them, and picked a few things from a handful of recipes that I liked to create this one recipe for myself.

    Peppermint Hot Chocolate

    • Servings: 6

    Ingredients:

    • 6 Tablespoons Chocolate Chips
    • 2/3 Cup Powdered Milk
    • 1/3 Cups Crushed Peppermint Candies or Candy Canes
    • 2/3 Cup Cocoa Powder, Unsweetened
    • 1 Teaspoon Salt
    • 2/3 Cup Sugar
    • Marshmallows (Optional)

    Instructions:

    1. Combine sugar, salt, cocoa powder, peppermint candies, powdered milk and chocolate chips in a medium bowl. Mix together well.
    2. Mix 1-1/2 cups boiling water with 1/3 cup hot chocolate mix. Stir until chocolate chips have melted. Top with marshmallows if you wish.

I’m one of the few people who absolutely hates hot chocolate. But my partner loves it, so I’ll be sharing this with them. They might like it. :)

To make this recipe a little eaiser, just use the herseys semi-sweet mint chocolate chips! :)

I’ve started looking into various Christmas recipes and came across a recipe for hot chocolate that people raved about but I found much too rich. This one is delicious! Love the peppermint and I think I’ll be making this to give out as a gift this year as well. Thank you!

Monica: If you make them fine enough (I use my food processor and they turn into a powder almost!), then yes they do melt. :)

    9. Amie says:

I use mini candy canes whole and use it as a stir stick kinda – it melts cuz of the hot water.
I also just take hot choc mix, stir in some milk, add hot water then candy cane.
Looking forward to trying this :)
      Thanks for posting!

I’m intruiged by this recipe, but I have a question – do the crushed candy canes melt? Or do they just sink to the bottom? Do you strain them out? LOL My daughter, who’s 4, is a peppermint hot chocolate addict (thank you, Starbucks!) and I would love to make this at home. Thanks!
