  • Be A Coupon Fairy

A Coupon Fairy is someone, anyone, who leaves unwanted coupons on the shelves of stores where the products are, so that someone else can use them.

For example, say you have a coupon for $2 off Polident but you don’t have dentures. Go down the row where they have the Polident and leave a bunch of your Polident coupons right by the product. This way, when someone comes along to buy Polident, if they don’t have a coupon, they can use the ones you left behind to save some money.

It’s doing something nice for a stranger, paying it forward.

Have you ever been a coupon fairy?

    Be A Coupon Fairy

yesterday I made up my mind to start working with coupons. I have a full time job, and was afraid it would take too much time, but I registered for all of the online sites, printed my free coupons, learned from the web last night about pricematching, stacking etc. and today went to search for pads of coupons at my grocery store……in London drugs there was a sale on deodorant. A coupon fairy left a coupon there for me…..so I got 2 for 4 dollars minus a 2 dollar coupon…..so my stockpile started today with 2 deodorants, but I am ready to go!!!

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that does this. My 20 year old daughter tells me it is creepy. Today I passed on $10 off Fisher Price, $15.00 off a razor, $10 printed coupon for Zellers. Everyone was happy and I left lighter because I was feeling almost guilty for holding such premium coupons and knowing that I would not be able to use them. I do the diaper thing all the time and give them to people randomly with them in their cart. I also drop them on products and I have graciously accepted coupons sitting and waiting for me. Life is good when you share. What goes around comes around is my motto. My family love that I share a great buy. During a save the tax event at Superstore recently, I managed to get the Head & Shoulders Shampoo with premium razor attached for less than $3 for the combo. I was able to use B2 save $2.50 with each purchase of two. Lots of coupons. Lots of goods and lots of people will be getting razors and shampoo this year. I got 8 deals (16 total of each). I also got a can of Pringles on a price match and by using my coupons and my total bill was $25.07.

    3. Grant: That’s sweet! I often feel awkward offering coupons as well.. usually because most of the time people look at me weird and say no!

I was recently in Walmart buying my Pampers when I noticed a man behind me with his young son buying Huggies. I knew I had a Huggies coupon in my folder and never buy them so feeling a little awkward, asked him if he’d like the spare coupon. He took it graciously and offered me a Pampers coupon in return! It convinced me to be a “coupon fairy” and also to never judge a purchaser.

I leave coupons on shelves all the time. New job title to add to resume – Coupon Fairy! :)

I’M SO GOING TO DO THIS. I’VE FOUND COUPONS BEFORE BUT THOUGHT THEY WERE JUST NOT NEEDED BY THE PERSON, NOT LEFT TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE FELT MANY TIMES THAT I WISHED I HAD MY BINDER WITH ME WHEN SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME HAS HAD A PRODUCT THAT I HAVE A COUPON FOR AND THAT I WILL PROBABY NOT USE. I’M ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE IN THE STORE ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE AND ALL THE MAIL OUT SITES (I WRITE THE DETAILS DOWN FOR THEM) SHARING THE WEALTH I CALL IT.

At No Frills a few weeks ago, I noticed that someone had left a coupon in front of a product. I haven’t done this, but I should. Once in Shoppers there was a girl buying cases of pop. I said to her “those are on sale at Sobeys(right next to Shoppers”. She was so appreciative. She put the pop away and went to Sobeys. The cashier looked a little peeved, but so be it. I was glad to help someone keep more of their money.

I’m like Kaylee. I haven’t left coupons on the shelves, but when I’m in line at the checkout I look to see if the people in front or behind of me are buying items that I have coupons for, and I will offer them. In fact, I just got back from the grocery store and was about to offer a coupon to the man in front of me. I hesitated, and didn’t offer it in the end. Then when his purchases was being rung through, it was really weird – there was an issue with everything. First off, he had mixed organic apples in with nonorganic in a bag – the cashier noticed and separated and rang them up separately. Then he tried to buy a thermos with no UPC on. He told her what the price was, but she apologized and said she still had to call for an official price check. He had also wanted to purchase a reusable grocery bag, and the cashier noticed that there were some non purhcased grocery items that he had stuck in there as well, so she rang them through. Finally, when all items were scanned, she noticed he was holding a chocolate bar in his hand. She asked him if he wanted to purchase it. He gave it to her and she scanned it. And then finally, at the end, he asked her to void the whole transaction. At first I thought he was just annoyed because of the length of time, but then I realized that he was probably a secret shopper and the whole transaction of him trying to sneak things past her was just a test to see what she would do. I was amazed that 1. She caught every trick of his; and 2. She was friendly and smiling the whole time. I don’t even think she realized it was a set-up because when her Supervisor came over to void the transaction she was asked what happened and she just said the customer changed his mind.

In the end, I’m glad I didn’t offer my coupon to him.

What if an employee comes and while re-shelfing throws away the coupons near the product. Isn’t there a better way to be a coupon fairy?

    11. Barbara says:

I have done this before and have used the coupons others left behind. Never realized it was called “coupon fairy” :)

    12. Kaylee says:

I have, actually! Not in the way you described, but in another way.. Awhile ago when the Campbell’s soup coupons were floating around and we stocked up when they went on a really good sale, I had more coupons than I needed, and they were about to expire. I noticed the woman behind me in line had lots of cans of soup in her cart as well, so passed along 2 or 3 of the coupons I had that were extras. She was very grateful, haha.
