Frugal Dessert Ideas

Frugal Dessert Ideas.

Banana Bread

Banana bread is not only inexpensive, it’s also a great way to use up bananas that are about to go bad. This soft, warm and sweet bread makes a great dessert. It’s also very delicious for breakfast or a mid-day snack. All you really need is some flour, bananas, eggs and sugar. Cheap and tasty!

Cake or Cupcakes

Boxed cake mix is very frugal (especially if you manage to snag this item for free or cheap with coupons). Even at full price, you are not likely to spend any more than $5 for the ingredients for this dessert that can feed many people. You could also make cake or cupcakes from scratch if you’d prefer.

Homemade Cookies

This is another idea where most recipes only call for flour, eggs, butter and sugar. Add in some peanut butter or chocolate chips and you have a cheap, yummy dessert (and snack for the next day!).

Rice Krispies Treats

Rice Krispies cereal (which can often be purchased on sale and with a coupon), some marshmallows and butter. That’s all there is to this awesome recipe. So easy and so very cheap.

Frozen Banana Pops

Dip bananas in a bit of honey or chocolate and roll in your desired toppings (coconut, nuts, cookie crumbs). Pop them in the freezer for a few hours and enjoy! These are great all year round, but especially in the summer when you need a nice, cold treat.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Melt some chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and then dip a few strawberries in the chocolate. You can (but don’t have to), stick these in the fridge for a little bit to harden the chocolate. When purchased in season and on sale, strawberries are very inexpensive. You can also use other fruits such as pineapple, oranges and apples.
