Homemade Baby Wipes & Makeup Remover

Here is a recipe for homemade baby wipes or makeup remover, sent in by a reader:

This a frugal tip I got from the show “Steven and Chris” this summer.

You can make your own baby wipes and save lots of money during your child’s diaper wearing phase. All you need is a roll of good quality 2-ply paper towel and some simple ingredients from your kitchen.

You can put everything into a wipes container – or, you can keep the solution in a bottle and use washcloths. These are great to keep in the car as well and can work to remove makeup at the end of the day too!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Baby Shampoo
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 Drops Tea Tree Oil (Or Vinegar)
  • 2 Drop Essential Oil (Any Scent You’d Like)
  • 2 Cups Water

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Cut roll of paper towel in half. Pour 1/4 of the liquid in the container bottom then put the cut side of the paper towel roll into the container. Pour the remaining solution over top of the paper towel roll.
  3. Let stand for ten minutes and then remove the cardboard centre from the roll of wipes. Pull wipes from the centre to start using.

I had some very thin, cheap hooded towels that I found useless, so I cut them up to use for baby wipes as my son was very sensitive to the wet wipes. I just use one of these with some water and it does the job. I am sure I have saved hundreds by not having to buy wet wipes!

I fill a spray bottle with water, a couple drops of baby oil and a couple drops of tea tree oil! I spray it onto squares of flannelette! I cloth diaper my babe, so the wipes go in the wash with them! Save a ton of cash 🙂

You are right Mrs. January. Everything in this recipe IS in my home already.
Ka Ching! You saved me lots of money on expensive make up removers. Thanks.

I received this recipe about 5 years ago and lost it. I have been searching for it and am so pumped to finally get it back. From a male co-worker of mine, he advised to cut the papertowel with an electric knife-works wonders.

Also, try vasaline for make up remover-you only need a small amount.
