How Long To Store & Freeze Your Stockpile

    1. Michelle says:

Never pay full price for bread…. I simply go to the 50% off racks and buy as many varieties of buns, bread and baguettes etc… and then go home and double bag them… FREEZE. I simply reuse old bread bags and double bag any type of bread that comes in my house. They usually taste fresh for about 2 months but I have had hard rolls taste great 3-4 mo. later.

    2. Mrs January says:

Laura: A few days, tops. I leave my bread in the freezer all the time and take it out when I need it. That way it never goes bad. :)

    3. Laura says:

Thanks, good to know. I’m getting a freezer on Sunday, yay! So now I’m wondering, if I freeze bread, after I take it out and dethaw it, how long does it stay fresh, besides the obvious appearance of mould!

    4. Amanda says:

Hahahah….I am cleaning out the cupboards today….and was curious about how long spices are good for! I guess I am starting from scratch for most of them ;) Thanks!

    5. Mrs January says:

Laura: You should thaw it first. :)

    6. Laura says:

Does anyone know or know where to find out info like, example, if I precook a shepards pie and freeze it, can I stick it straight into the oven and for how long, or do i need to dethaw it first? I really want to precook and freeze meals for convienience but i dont know how to cook it after when it is frozen!

    7. Thanks for the tips ladies! :)

    8. Jenn says:

You stated you can’t freeze apples, I have cut them up small and frozen on a cookie sheet to use in things like muffins.

    9. Lorraine says:

You also can freeze fresh mushrooms. I buy them in bulk when on sale slice and freeze on cookie sheets then place them in freezer bags they work great for sauces, in recipes or even if you want to fry them up, the only way I haven’t been able to use them is to thaw and use in a salad or such they go mushy and soft but if your cooking with them there great and if you get them on sale they taste better than canned and are much cheaper too.

    10. Wendy R says:

You can also freeze sour cream if you’re using it for baking. I use it in my cake recipes and cheese cake, but it doesn’t matter with these because it’s going to be mixed and cooked anyway. I wouldn’t use it for tacos or potatoes etc.

    11. Ashley Dawn: No, you cannot freeze lettuce, it will turn to mush when it thaws.

      Anne: Thanks for sharing!

    12. princessj says:

omg thanks so much for this list…

    13. Anne says:

Here’s a good website I use to find out how long things can be kept in the fridge and freezer: http://www.stilltasty.com

    14. Ashley Dawn says:

      So you can freeze Lettuce?

    15. Ashley says:

You can actually keep honey indefinitely. The natural sugar content in honey is very high, and there is no water in it, which is essential for any kind of bacteria or fungus to grow.
