    Price Match Meat at Walmart

Price matching is a fantastic way to save money on your groceries, and one of the best places to price match is at Walmart.

Walmart will allow you to price match pretty much anything, including meat. Here’s how you do it:

    Bring Your Flyer

Like you would with any other price match, be sure to bring in the flyer you want to price match. Most times, you can not price match without one.

Printed flyers are usually okay at most locations, just check with your store manager to be certain.

    Store Brand for Store Brand

If you want to price match a brand such as Maple Leaf Prime, you can easily do that. But what if you want to price match meat from, say, Loblaws? There is no brand name on the package, which means it’s just the store brand that Loblaws is selling. You can still price match this item at Walmart.

You must purchase the Walmart store brand (Great Value) in place of the Loblaws store brand in order to match the price.

    Kilograms, Not Pounds

Most price matches for meat (and produce as well), is done by the kilogram and not by the pound, so you need to make sure the advertisement you are bringing with you shows the kilogram price.

This price is usually smaller than the per pound price on most flyers. If your ad does not have a kilogram price listed, you will not be able to price match (unless a specific size is mentioned – for example, 3 pack chicken breasts for $7).

    Size Matters

You also need to make note of what size is on sale. When it comes to ground meats and chicken breasts, it is often the “family pack” that is on sale.

If this is the case, you will need to purchase the family pack size at Walmart as well, in order to price match.

If your flyer does not state that it is a family pack on sale, you can purchase any size (unless there is a specific size other than “family pack” mentioned).

That’s all there is to it. Price matching meat is very easy and is a great way to make your grocery dollars stretch further.

Make sure you tell your cashier that you will be price matching before they start ringing in your items so you can make sure to get your discount.

Mrs. January, thanks much for this tip!
@ Brenda, I agree, one price does not fit all. Walmart has the Maple Leaf veggie grain fed chicken on sale a while back. For $5, the range in weights was incredible. Like you, I spend a bit of time getting the heaviest package for $5.

I also weigh bags of apples, oranges and grapefruit. You can get more produce for the same cost that way.

I have priced matched meat at No Frills as well, but same as Nikki mentioned, my store prefers you ask at the back as they print out a new sticker in the meat department. I never think to buy meat in Walmart!

I just looked it up, and it says that they do not pricematch other retailer’s private label price promotions.

I have pried matched meat at Superstore. it has to be the no name meat also, but you need to do it at the butcher in the back before going up to the cashier since they need to print off a new sticker. I have been doing it since I started to price match and it’s great!

This is great to know. will save me some time running around to various stores. thank you

    6. Theresa says:

My husband just shows the cashier the ad on his smart phone and that is sufficient. If you have a smart phone, you don’t have to carry around the flyers.

    7. Jessie says:

I will try it next time I go.

thanks for the great information! I would also like to know about price matching things like eggs and butter since they have the store brand on them. Will they do it?

    9. Brenda says:

Even if you are not price matching meat and find the flat rate package prices (example $5.00). I noticed most ppl pick one that looks good. yes this still matters but why would you pick a package that is 1.3kg when you can get a 1.9 kg package for the same price. I tend to pick the heaviest weighted pack

Can you price match other stores no name brand groceries with Great Value groceries? That would be so cool. I just price matched meat at Walmart yesterday!!

    14. Sonia says:

I have price matched meat at Walmart. Often the cashier requires the meat person to come and repackage the meat into the sizes I am asking to price match.
