    Best Deals in October

Wondering what the best things to buy in October are? Look no further!

As I’m sure many of you know, stores follow a yearly sales cycle, so with a few exceptions, you can usually anticipate finding the same products on sale at the same time every year.

Here’s what you can expect to find on sale in October:

    Toys & Games

Believe it or not, but October kicks off the start of holiday sales and some of the biggest discounts you can find right now are on toys and games.

Toys for children of all ages are on sale, as well as board, card and computer games.

    Cars

If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, October is a very good month to make your purchase.

New models are released in September, which means by October, dealerships are very anxious and want to get rid of inventory quickly – this means great discounts for you.

    Denim

Many stores brought in mountains of denim in anticipation of back-to-school sales and by October, most students have already purchased what they need.

That means there are many discounts to be had on denim right now, so if you need some, now is the time to pick some up.

    Thanksgiving Food Items

Since Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, this month will yield fantastic deals on items for your Thanksgiving feast. After Thanksgiving, the deals won’t be as good, though, so stock up on what you need during the first 2 weeks of October.

Look for turkeys, stuffing, cranberry sauce, baking items (flour, shortening, butter, sugar), ham, and more.

    Lawn Mowers

You won’t need to cut your grass much longer this year, but stores are making room for holiday items by clearing out large items such as lawn mowers, so if you need one, now is the time to bite the bullet.

The best time of the year to buy a lawn mower is in September, if you want a great selection – otherwise, October is the best month to purchase this item.

    Air Conditioners

Summer is officially over and that means stores are clearing out as much summer stuff as they can – especially large, bulky items like air conditioners.

If this is something you will need next summer, October is a great time to pick it up.

    Nuts

Fall is harvest season for nut farmers, so October is the best time of the year to find great deals on almonds, pecans, pistachios, walnuts and more.

For even better discounts on nuts, purchase them during the Thanksgiving sales (the first 2 weeks of October) – especially pecans (pecan pie, anyone?).

    Produce on sale in October:

Apples, Bananas, Cranberries, Kiwis, Lemons, Pears, Plums, Pomegranates, Artichokes, Beans, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Corn, Cucumber, Eggplant, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Onions, Peppers, Potatoes, Pumpkins, Radish, Spinach, Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Zucchini

Waiting until just the right moment to buy something is one of the best things you can do to save money. Unless you need it right away, hold off on any purchase you need to make until it is the best time to buy.

Do you wait until October to purchase any of the above items?

Any coupons coming for Toys R Us??

    2. Alison says:

If you buy an air conditioner in October or early spring, make sure to have them come back in late spring to test it. Temperatures below 15 Celsius won’t allow for accurate measuring of the refrigerant oil and can cause poor cooling and even damage to your system. This shouldn’t cost you any extra.

      @ Laura – Tee Hee.

@ Cassie – What’s a good time of year to buy lingerie to compensate for the almonds and lawnmowers ?

    4. Pam says:

      Thanks Mrs January very informative.

Thanks for the info! I had no idea about any of this. But if my husband gets annoyed when he comes home to a house full of almonds and lawn mowers, I’m blaming you, okay? ;)
