    What to Buy in September

Wondering what the best things to buy in September are? Look no further!

As I’m sure many of you know, stores follow a yearly sales cycle, so with a few exceptions, you can usually anticipate finding the same products on sale at the same time every year.

Here’s what you can expect to find on sale in September:

    Summer Apparel & Accessories

Now is the absolute best time of the year to buy summer apparel and accessories, since summer is on it’s way out the door.

Look for swimwear, sandals, sunglasses, sun hats, t-shirts and tank tops, shorts and capri pants.

    Snack Foods

The kids are back in school, so stores are bringing out great deals on snack and convenience foods.

Look for crackers, cookies, juice boxes, pudding and Jell-O cups. You can find other lunch and breakfast items on sale as well, including bread, lunchmeat, peanut butter, jelly, Pop Tarts, waffles, pancake mix & syrup and more!

Bed Linens, Towels & Bath Supplies

There are always “White Sales” right around Labour day and this year will be no exception.

Look for fantastic deals on sheet sets, comforters/duvets, pillows, towels and bath supplies such as toothbrush holders, small trash cans, shower curtains and floor mats.

    Large Appliances

If you’re in the market for a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine or dryer, now is the time to pick one up.

Stores are bringing in many newer models soon, so the “old” models will get a pretty decent price reduction this month.

    Plants

Fall plants are going to make their way in to garden centres any time now, so this is a great time to pick up shrubs, bushes and other landscaping plants. Just make sure you only purchase plants that will grow in all temperatures.

    Lawn Care Items

You can find some great deals on lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers and a bunch of other lawn care items in September.

You can also find deals on gardening supplies.

    Barbecues

Labour Day is considered to be the last barbecue party of the year, and immediately afterward, barbecue grills will be on deep discount almost everywhere, so stores can clear out inventory and make room for the newer models.

Also look for barbecue tools and items such as hot dogs, ground beef, buns and condiments on sale in September.

    Patio Sets

Sales started happening in August for patio sets, but September is the best time to buy, in terms of how much money you can save on your purchase.

Shop early, though, as these items sell quickly because of how inexpensive they are this month.

    Produce on sale in September:

Apples, Bananas, Blueberries, Cantaloupe, Grapes, Lemons, Mangoes, Nectarines, Papayas, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Raspberries, Watermelon, Artichokes, Beans (Green/Wax), Beets, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Corn, Cucumber, Eggplant, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Onions, Peppers, Potatoes, Radishes, Spinach, Squash, Sweet Potatoes Tomatoes, Zucchini

Waiting until just the right moment to buy something is one of the best things you can do to save money. Unless you need it right away, hold off on any purchase you need to make until it is the best time to buy.

Do you wait until September to purchase any of the above items?

Winter gear can certainly be bought for excellent prices right now, since whatever is left from last winter needs to move to make room for the new stock:
I just scored a snowsuit for my middle daughter on the outlet part of the Sears website…$65 (incl. tax and del. fee) for a snowsuit instead of $129.99? My 7 year old sure doesn’t care if it’s last year’s! And she should get 2 winters out of it!

    2. I have found winter stuff for the girls on same ALREADY. I scored half off of Roxy snowsuits for them – so fantastic!

Also some wedding things. I bought our invitations at Michael’s this weekend that were $9.99 for a package of 40 (regularly $54.99). Can’t complain with $0.25 an invitation! :D

Yay for appliance sales! We’re moving in October, and we need the whole ‘fridge, gas-range, washer/dryer’ package. I hate that the house we bought doesn’t come with these, but it seems the timing is right for buying them. And hey, may as well stock up on new linens while we’re at it! ;)
