If you’re trying to save money on groceries, coupon tips are a great way to get started. These coupon tips will show you a few ways that you can save money on groceries by using coupons.

Coupon Tips to Save Money

They’re easy, they’re fun, but best of all – they can help you save quite a bit of cash when you’re out shopping! Here are a few coupon tips to help you make couponing easier and more effective:

5 Coupon Tips to Help You Save Money

1. Combine BOGO Sales with BOGO Coupons

Like freebies? Then try this: combine a buy one, get one free (BOGO or B1G1) coupon with a buy one, get one free sale, and you’ll get both items free!

2. Check The Clearance Rack/Shelf

Clearance prices are good, but they can get even better. Match them with coupons and you could get items for next to nothing (sometimes free!).

Carry your coupons with you at all times, and you’ll be ready to match at any given time.

3. Check The Trial Section

Some coupons specify the size of the product that must be purchased, but when they don’t – SCORE! Take these coupons to the trial size section of the store, and match them up to the smaller sized products. This usually ends with FREE items, but sometimes trial sized items are overpriced and aren’t worth wasting coupons on.

This is why you should know your prices – to know when a good deal really is a good deal.

4. Stack Your Coupons

Increase your savings by combining a manufacturer coupon with a store coupon for the same item; or take it to the savings extreme by combining a manufacturer coupon with a store coupon, a sale and a rebate.

Please keep in mind that not all stores allow “stacking”. Call your store ahead of time to make sure this is something that they are okay with.

5. Watch The Screen

Check the prices on the screen as your order is being rung up. Verify that each item’s amount is the same as the amount you have on your list. If there are any discrepancies, bring it to the cashier’s attention immediately to avoid any problems at the end of your order.

If you are at a store that follows the scanning code of practice (SCOP), you could end up getting your item for FREE or $10 off!

I remember reading this on another blog before. It is so true

  2. Kaitlin says:

BOGO sale combined with BOGO coupon won’t always result in free items. It depends on what the store does when it comes to these sales. SDM will adjust the price of both items so that the combined price will equal the total price of one item…not leave the price of one item and bring the other price to zero. I’m not sure if any other stores do what SDM does or actually makes one completely free.

True, you do need to check with your local stores to see if they allow B1G1 coupons in addition to B1G1 sales, but I rarely have problems at any stores I go to (Walmart, SDM, Sobeys).
