  • Canadian Shopping Deals: May 26, 2012

I woke up bright and early to hit the stores this morning. I got to Walmart right when they opened and found almost everything I wanted, thankfully.

Then I went to No Frills right when they opened and found not only everything I wanted, but I also caught an employee right when she was bringing out marked down produce and got some amazing bargains on pears, apples, tomatoes and peaches. I’m going to spend a few hours making tomato sauce and apple sauce this weekend!

I’m not sure what to do with the pears or peaches yet, but they will likely be frozen for something.

Finally, I finished up my shopping at Metro, where I picked up 5 boxes of Weetabix cereal for just $0.99 a piece. I also took advantage of the FREE lemonade offer by splitting my purchases into 2 transactions to get 2 free lemonades for spending $10+.

*I thought we had another bag of chicken in the chest freezer, but we didn’t, so I had to pay full price. :(

I’d make both peach and pear sauce and can it or freeze in ice cube trays. Also, if you have never made peach (or nectarine) crisp-it is heavenly. My favourite topping is from a little Quaker Oats cookbook: 1cup uncooked oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar (says firmly packed, I never do), 1/3 cup flour (I use whole wheat or spelt), 1/3 cup melted butter, 1tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp salt. This amount is for an 8×8 with 6 peaches. I love to make random crisp for dessert-great way to use up any fruits that aren’t quite so pretty, especially those apples with the softer skin. Apples, pears, peaches, rhubarb, berries (frozen fine). Yummy!

OUCH on the chicken…if I had none we would eat something else or go meatless before I would ever pay full price!!!

If it helps, I went down to London Drugs today and they had a manager special for the 20 pack of the quantum dish detergent on for 4.99. If you have your coupons from your free samples for $2.00 off and bogo $5.00 you can grab a steal. :)

Ann – Wal Mart in Langley had the Sweet Bay Rays BBQ for $1.97 a few days ago.

      Christa: Yes, it is. :)

Ann Thibault: Thanks for the tips, I love the pear sauce idea.

raylene: It was 3 weeks, minus 3 Sunday’s (Sunday’s were free days).

    5. raylene says:

HI! I was just wondering if you will be finishing up the series for spring cleaning. I was really enjoying that. I assumed 3 weeks meant a full 21 days of tasks but it stopped at 18. I hope more will come soon.

    6. Betty says:

@ Ann Thibeault: that’s what I’d be doing with the pears & peaches!! I would also make some pear or peach crisp (goes well with ice cream in this hot weather). If it were my kids, they’d make smoothies with them

    7. Ann Thibault says:

I looked for Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce at Walmart in South Surrey…….could not find any!!!
I really want some for my son in law……he barbeques the BEST RIBS!!!!! If anyone knows where in that store they are…..please post!!!!

cool Now have 3 coupons. Was never able to get them last week.

    10. Ann Thibault says:

Cassie….with the PEARS, make Pear Sauce like the apple sauce…….freeze in ice cube containers(then put frozien cubes in Freezer bags)…..use for baby food, defrosting how ever many cubes you want at a time You can do this with some of your apple sauce too……but I’ll bet Elliott likes that himself!!!Peaches can be frozen in slices on a cookie sheet then put into a freezer bag….You may need citric acid on them to prevent browning. They are great in smoothies!!!!

    11. Emily says:

Christa, yes it is. I think that might be the regular price!

    12. Faby says:
