Walmart Canada Deals: April 28, 2012

We had a pretty big shopping list for Walmart this morning.

We were all out of cat food, oil, soya sauce, crushed tomatoes and potatoes – so we had to get those. We were also all out of cereal and though $2.99 per box (for 2 of them) is expensive to me, the FREE juice coupons made it a bit less painful. Eating oatmeal for breakfast everyday has been getting old.

I also picked up some chicken and pork back ribs because they were on sale for really great prices.

Hi, Cassie. I’m a bit slow when it comes to understanding how the SDM Optimum bonus 18500 points worked this Saturday. Do you get the cashier to tally everything up, hit subtotal and THEN deduct all of your coupons? I didn’t do it this way today and got stuck having to spend $75. I gave her my coupon one by one when the item came up. Duh!

I love popping over to this place now and again to check out sweet deals mrs. january and other positive people are getting/doing. It’s really fun to share deals and see what other people are getting and making for dinner! I like to have fun. I don’t like drama. I’m getting a little tired of people’s comments about what other people buy. It’s the same every week… “ooo your buying formula!” “don’t post negative comments!” ooo that’s what kind of animal food your buy!”…. blah, blah, blah! Read back posts and comments for the past year if your thinking about posting a negative comment don’t worry because *SURPRISE* Someone has already posted it. Add something about coupons and deals or MOVE ON! Ok… so maybe I should take my own advice??? LOL

    3. Mrs B says:

Hi Cassie, Thanks for posting your weekly shopping trips. One of the reasons I love your site is that your shopping trips are realistic and something all of us can do!! Unlike the extreme couponers on TV…you show us how to save a little extra on each trip in a very practical way. And of course some weeks you will have an amazing shopping haul if there are great sales. Thanks for all that you do, it is so appreciated. This year our family has managed to save so much money!

    4. Hugo says:

This week the crispers are 1$ at wmart and i found a 1$/2 on any christies product on the publi sac in quebec.

    5. Mesenga says:

Great deals! If you’re tired of oatmeal everyday, have u tried making a huge batch of pancakes and freezing them for later? Maybe even French that too. Are you also doing the SDM points deal today?

    6. Karen Horne says:

      Hi Cassie,
Just curious what your good price is for cereal? $2.99 is the lowest I can remember seeing it on the west coast (not that I’ve been couponing for very long). I find that our prices are definitely higher here than back east.

    7. Jane says:

Where’s the gratitude??? Mrs. January spends many hours each and every week teaching us how to be more frugal. Does she charge us to use her site? Noooooooo One of the basic principles in life is – do unto others as you would have them do unto you – If you have nothing positive to add to this site, don’t hang around or post. This is a “positive place”.

P.S. I don’t know Mrs. January, but I sure love her site.

    8. Stephanie says:

First let me say that I love the fact that you post what you buy and what you pay…Helps me realize that I can either do better or that I am doing a great job! Secondly…not everyone has 50$ to spend on cat and dog food, and even then the expensive stuff is not any better than the less expensive food. I know this because I have actually been part of an experiment where we broke down food to see what was actually in the food. ITS THE SAME! So aside from people being obtrusive please keep up the great work, thank you for sharing your life with us, and congratulations on being a super well rounded woman who we can all aspire to!

    9. Stephanie says:

I’m SO HAPPY that you posted about the milk, I’ve heard from a few people that they haven’t been able to get it at WM and that’s my only chance. Thanks for clarifing that!

If anyone’s looking for cheaper soya sauce, pm Sobey’s Kikkoman soy sauce that is 2/$4 and use the $1 printable!

    10. nathalie says:

some of the prices paid for items I find a tad expensive ei: potatoes, crushed tomatoes, oil and soya sauce.

    11. Kathy says:

Good deals Cassie. I agree after getting something for 2.99 regularly, anything higher is hard to bear :)

Jen & Erin, you comments on what pet foods Cassie buys is not your business. She posts this info. to help people get deals, save money etc. Why don’t you post what you have purchased and we can comment on the amount of salt & fat in you diet? I’m tired of people posting nasty comments about what Cassie purchases. If you don’t like what she buys, don’t buy it.

    12. Barbara Kovach says:

This is about deals and prices! I’m just so shocked at people who “pick apart” someone’s shopping trip. It would be like saying “I’m surprised that you only bought 1 cucumber when it’s cheaper to buy 3″. Who cares what “brand” she buys!

    13. erin says:

Jen: I bite back a lot of comments re: low-grade pet food that people purchase. Considering all the pets experiencing kidney failure from issues with their food, and the presence of protein from euthanized pets in so many of those brands, it makes me ill to think about. But I guess it’s just best to think about the pets receiving food daily and being in a good home where they’re cared for rather than on death row or on the street.

    14. JRoy says:

I’m actually somewhat surprised that you thought $2.99 per box of cereal was expensive. I live in a small town in Northern rural BC, and we’re lucky up here if a SMALL box of cereal goes ON SALE to $4.99. Every few months Save-On puts their jumbo boxes of Kellogg’s on for $6.99 and we tend to stock up then because otherwise it’s way too expensive to buy cereal.

    15. Jen says:

Be sure to add some apple cider vinegar to that commercial cat food to help prevent crystals for your cats! (Just concerned about your animal’s health with all the commercial food I see you buy!).
