How to Organize Bras: Reader Question

A reader recently sent in this question:

Help! Do you have any hacks as to best store bras to save space? I have no room in my dresser, and no room in my closet to hang them. They are taking up so much room just sitting on my dresser.

Do you have any ideas for this reader? Please share in the comments!

How to Organize Bras: Reader Question

    1. Nacho says:

Thank you everyone. I never thought about nesting them together. That makes so much sense. And for those of you who said I have too many, I only own 4. It’s just that my drawers are super tiny/

    2. Kim says:

When I didn’t have a dresser, I relied on one of those nylon shelving units that hang from the bar in your closet – I used the one sized for shoes (so very narrow but very deep). It takes up minimal space in the closet, and it was great for moving as it collapsed down, unlike a dresser! I like the idea of the over-the-door shoe organizer as well, but thinking back, every place that I lived that I had to use this system, my closets had an accordian door or no door at all!

    3. Jan says:

I have a basket in my closet that I put them in. I fold them cup to cup and put the straps in the cup and then the same with the next pushed up against the others in a row. Works for me …hope it works for you.

    4. Jamie Hadley says:

I use an over the door shoe organizer. There is a pocket for my bra and the matching underwear to go with it. I works great and is so easy. You just stuff them in.

I’m no help as I’ve only ever had three-one to wear, one in the laundry and in the drawer! They are folded in half with the backs and straps tucked inside and my underwear/sock drawer.

Do you have a night table that you could liberate a drawer from? A space in the closet or under the bed for a basket on the floor? A shelf in the bathroom since that may be where you get dressed?

    6. Rina says:

Good lord, get rid of some of them! If you have so many that they are causing you stress about STORING them, you HAVE TOO MANY. It’s wasteful!

    7. Carrie says:

I have a box that i keep them in and it fits on the floor of my closet.

    8. Lea says:

For the last 12 years, I’ve used (the same) 4 shelf rack. It is cheap, and technically on wheels although I don’t have space to wheel it anywhere. I have seen similar racks used in laundry rooms to sort detergents. This sits in my closet underneath my hanging clothes and the height comes to just below my hanging shirts. This has worked for me when I lived in dorms (read: no space), studio apartments, and now a more reasonable space. This came out of necessity because I only had 3 dresser drawers at the time and realized bras/underwear/socks took up a full drawer+, and had very little hanging space. After using this system for many years now, I would never go back to drawers. This is a close replica to what I am talking about, only this has only 3 shelves and mine has 4. I think you get the idea thought that it is compact and nothing fancy.

On the top shelf, I store socks. On the 2nd shelf, I store underwear. I am a weird type-A person who likes to SEE and so thongs are on 1 half and anything “with a butt” are folded and stacked. On the 3rd shelf are my bras. Some of them have more structure/padding than others, but if you open the bra up, it fits perfectly “stacked”. I have about 12 stacked here and can see/grab what I need without any problem. Similar method to the drawers/stacking done in lingerie stores. Even softer bras that don’t have wire or padding/support will work in this way. On the bottom shelf I have tights folded up, bathing suits, and sports bras. I used to put the bras on the top shelf, but sometimes the hanging shirts would get caught.

      Hope this helps!

    9. Emilie says:

I reserved one single drawer for just undergarments (bra, socks and underwear), then I separate them into three different baskets (got the baskets at the dollar store for 3/1$). This works perfectly for me and I am limited in space myself.

    10. Helen W says:

I have reserved a drawer in my dresser for bras and socks. The bras “spoon” each other, one in front of the other, like they do it in the lingerie store drawers. If it gets to be too many I purge some of the older ones.

    11. I have a hook in my closet and hang bras from one of their shoulder straps! The bras I don’t use much are stored in a basket. Hope this helps!

    12. Sue says:

Have less bras? Usually reducing the number of items is the easiest way to solve organizational dilemmas. Are you really wearing all of them on a regular basis? If I have an outfit that needs a special bra I hang it over the hanger the outfit hangs on. The rest easily fit in my drawer with my other undergarments but I only have a weeks worth of everything.

    13. Michelle says:

I know you say you don’t have a lot of space in the closet, but I use a multi-pronged belt/scarf hanger that has about 8 prongs from front to back of the closet and it can store many bras and belts in a small space. Otherwise, my roommate used to have them in a large plastic bin under her bed.

    14. Shellie Cadogan says:

I have a wicker basket on the shelf in my closet and I place all my bras in there, folded into one another, colour organized, strapless in the back…
I find they take up a lot of space and this works for me.

    15. Lisa says:

I have a over the door rack on my closet door and all my bras hang on that on the inside, it works wonderfully!
