We moved and it sucked.

I awoke to banging on the wall at 9am this morning. Looks like my neighbours are doing some redecorating. Fantastic. Sure, 9am isn’t THAT early… but come on – we JUST MOVED IN! We’re tired!!! I am so annoyed. If there’s one thing I do not like, it’s being woken up from a good sleep. I don’t have many sleeps like that lately.

Aaaaaanyways. So, we’re moved in. This move was nowhere near as organized and easy as the last one, but it wasn’t the worst so I guess that’s something. We couldn’t pick up the moving truck until 10am (I wanted it at 8, but they said they weren’t open that early) and it was a 20 minute drive and about 20 minutes in the store so we got home and finally started loading the truck at about 11am. DH’s friend helped us for the second time which was really nice of him. I’m not sure what we would have done otherwise!

We FINALLY had everything loaded and the house cleaned up by 3pm (I think). With an hour drive ahead of us, we arrived at the new house just before 4pm. We were all starving at this point, so DH and his friend went to pick up food. We ate our yummy McDonalds on the CARPETED DINING ROOM (who’s the genious that thought that would be a good idea???) floor and then they unloaded the truck. They took alot of breaks so that didn’t get finished until about 9pm. They then went to pick up pizza for dinner (ugh, too much fast food for one day!), came back, ate that and then DH’s friend went home and DH went back to the old house to pick up his car and the cats (my car was full on the way there – with the giant dogs we own). Apparently one of the cats was being a little shit and hiding in the bar that is in the basement. There are a few holes that he can get into and then he’s under the wood cover (it’s hard to explain) and you can’t reach him. DH had to drive to his parents’ house to borrow a hammer and tear up the bar a little bit (oops) to get him out.

In the meantime I am at the new place, trying to organize whatever I can. Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a very organized person and am rather OCD when it comes to my stuff and where and how it is stored and/or displayed. I managed to organize most of the kitchen (for now) and unpacked a few boxes and seperated things for where they were going to go. DH finally got home, exhausted, around 12:30am. We went to bed right away.

Yesterday morning DH set up the desks because we were going crazy without the internet (how sad is that?). Once they were set up, we hooked up our computers and caught up with the online world for a good 2 hours. We then decided it would be a good idea to do some shopping since we’d pretty much cleared out our fridge when we moved and the new one was rather empty.

After that we made rice for dinner (I can’t wait for a NORMAL meal!), and I did alot more unpacking/sorting. The living room was set up (it is horrible… the architecht was obviously drunk when he designed this place. There are stairs in the middle of the living room so it’s difficult so find a place for the couch and big chair so that you have a good view of our giant TV) and then DH put the bed together and put the big mirror on my desser. I spent the rest of the night doing more unpacking (does it ever end?!). We went to bed around the same time last night.

Today we are going to our old area to visit with DH’s sister, her husband and their baby boy, who is staying at his parents’ house for a week. They live in Pennsylvania so they only come to visit a few times a year. We figure it will be a nice break from new house stuff. :) Not sure when we are leaving to go there but I imagine it will be in the next few hours. We probably won’t be home until this evening and even though I will be tired, I know I will still do more unpacking/organizing. I can’t stand the mess! Everywhere! In every room! It’s driving me bonkers. I need some order.

Okay, I guess I should go get some breakfast and see what the plan is for today. Ta ta!

Moving Day – 3 days

My dad very graciously offered to help me pack this week since he is off work on holidays. I was very happy about this because DH can’t help me as he works all day during the week and on the weekends he is studying for some really big test (for work) that he has to take in 3 weeks. It would have been close to impossible for me to pack the entire house by my pregnant self, so it was such a nice surprise when my dad offered his assistance. We’ve (well, mostly him and I delegated) packed the entire basement, which was the largest job, and most of the kitchen and office. The only stuff that is really left over now is a few odds and ends and then the stuff that we will most likely need before the day we move – Saturday.

We packed Monday and Tuesday, took today off and will finish packing up whatever is left tomorrow. Then on Friday we are going to the new place to get the cable/phone/internet set up and also do a few things like hang some curtains, hang the shower curtains, stock the fridge with drinks and snacks, and I’d also like to make up a rough plan for where I want to set up the larger furniture pieces on moving day so I can tell DH and his friend that is helping us move.

I’m so excited to move and get out of this house. It is SO SMALL, I really don’t like our neighbours, it’s a long commute to work for DH and it just sucks. The new place is much much nicer, we already met our neighbours and they are fabulous (one of them is actually a doctor!), DH’s commute is cut more than in half, and it’s in an area that we really love. Only 3 more sleeps! :D

Alright, I’m going to make some dinner, I’m starving! Tonight it’s pasta with gound beef (haven’t had that in ages, since I don’t really like ground beef, but we have alot of it and I want to use it up). Yum! No appetite suppresants for me. I love food!

What a day…

Ahhhhhhh what a crazy long day of shopping. My back, legs, butt – everything is aching! It’s getting more and more difficult to shop the further along in my pregnancy I get (almost 28 weeks now). I’m gonna have to start dragging hubby out with me to help from now on! Anyway.. today was a good savings day but man oh man it was a BAD day. Mostly because of Zellers #1. Listen to this…

So after my total comes up and I had the cashier my coupons, she gets the $2.00 satin care ones and says she can’t accept it because it’s more than the price of the item. I explain to her that taxes are included and she still says no. I ask her to ask her supervisor, who is just as clueless. I’m getting frustrated at that point and ask to speak to the store manager. After a few minutes she comes out and says no, but when I explain to her that I’ve called head office to confirm this is okay to do she says okay and that she will check with head office herself as well. She was actually very pleasant. So she tells the cashier to just put the coupons through for now and she is going to check for next time. The cashier ARGUES WITH HER (“so that means she is going to get stuff free, that’s not right”). She is mumbling things to herself under her breath and I’ve finally had enough and tell her I don’t appreciate being treated like a criminal that is scamming stores. Without hesitation she flat out says “you are scamming stores. you’re a scammer.” I was so shocked – I actually asked her “are you saying I am a scammer?” and she said “yes you are”. I stood there with my jaw to the floor for a good few seconds as she finished ringing up my order. I have never in my life had someone talk to me like that. I was utterly disgusted! I asked to speak to the store manager again and I told her what the cashier said to me and explained that I was very upset about it and that I would be contacting head office about her (the cashier). She said she totally agreed, and that she was going to talk to the cashier and also take her off of the cash and put her on the floor. I didn’t get home until late tonight so I am going to contact head office tomorrow. I am still furious!

Anyway.. here’s some good news – the deals!

April 2009 Budget Recap

Ahhh this was a terrible terrible month. Of course, I blame it ALL on DH’s new job. Our misc. category is over by almost $600 because we both went to the dentist (over $200) and I had a chiropractor appointment and a $250 medication to refill and we were told it would be covered under his medical coverage but later find out that his coverage doesn’t start until a month after his start date (May 1st) so we were out that $500!!! Also, DH’s check was $400 short this month because he had to pay for the phone they gave him! Ugh, I am so mad about all that. However.. the good news is that even though we were over alot, we still didn’t spend more than we made.

We also put $300 into our emergency fund.

Speaking of which, I thought that our emergency fund was joint but apparently it was only in DH’s name because you can only have one name on it. I want to be able to save more than just $5,000 so I called ING to see what I can do. They said I can open my own TFSA as well. So that means we can save $10,000 a year tax free – not just $5,000! I was very excited to do that. So I opened that account as well as a regular Investment Savings Account that pays the same amount of interest (which we will be taxed on, but that’s okay, I expected that).

One more thing – WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!!! We went to sign the lease today. We move in May 16th – yes, 2 weeks from now. Ahhhh! Lots to do, now I won’t be bored anymore!

We’re moving again!

Ugh, I can’t even begin to tell you how sick I am of moving. I have moved 4 times in the past 4 years. This will be the 5th move. Unfortunetely, it’s somewhat necessary. I say somewhat because in all honesty, we could stay here and suck it up if we really HAD to.. but we don’t – so we aren’t gonna. DH has an hour and a half commute to work each way, Monday-Friday. He has to get up at 5am and be out the door by 5:30. He’s always exhausted and I feel horrible for him! Our initial plan was to try to find a place right by his work, but the location is crazy expensive. I’m talking $1800-$2000 a month for a 3 bedroom home (that’s not even that nice looking). Ouch.

We’ve finally settled on moving back to where we were before we moved into our current home. Here are the pro’s and con’s of this location:

Pros:
- DH’s commute will be just under an hour
- DH’s train pass will be about $100 a month cheaper
- The area is modern (our favourite!) and has EVERYTHING nearby!
- We will no longer have to pay for house OIL ($205 a month – crazyness!)
- We will have 3 bedrooms again! Yippie!

Cons:
- DH’s commute is decent, but still not as short as he’d have liked
- Rent will go from our current $995 up to $1500-$1600 per month
- We will be about an hour away from family & friends

I hate house hunting more than I hate actual moving. It is so stressful! See, we have some specific demands and most of them can’t be negotiable. For example, we need a private enclosed backyard for the dogs – otherwise they will take off! We also need 3 bedrooms so we can have one for baby E (we originally thought 2 would be okay, as long as the master bedroom was large enough, but down the road baby E is going to need his own room anyway, so why not just get that 3rd bedroom now). It seems simple enough, but it’s been so hard to find places that fit our criteria AND are in our price range.

We have an appointment this evening at 7:30 to view a home. From the photos we’ve seen, the house looks perfect and the price is right, as is the location. Hopefully it looks just as good in person and we can make arrangements to move in. If we like it, we’re going to make sure we seal the deal right away so no one else can come along and swipe the house up!

We’ve asked our current landlord if it would be okay if we broke our 1 year lease (explaining that this house is too small to bring a baby into, and also because of DH’s long commute) and they totally understand and said it was no problem. They’re so nice, I’m going to miss them! Our move out date is June 1st. I’m determinded to make this move alot more organized than the last so that it goes quickly and smoothly. Maybe PDAs would help with that! :P
