April 2009 Budget Recap

Ahhh this was a terrible terrible month. Of course, I blame it ALL on DH’s new job. Our misc. category is over by almost $600 because we both went to the dentist (over $200) and I had a chiropractor appointment and a $250 medication to refill and we were told it would be covered under his medical coverage but later find out that his coverage doesn’t start until a month after his start date (May 1st) so we were out that $500!!! Also, DH’s check was $400 short this month because he had to pay for the phone they gave him! Ugh, I am so mad about all that. However.. the good news is that even though we were over alot, we still didn’t spend more than we made.

INCOME:
Moi: $636.89
DH: $2308.83
= $2945.72
+ Extra Income = $1090.73 (selling things, etc.)
= $4036.45

Total Spent = $3731.53/$3075.31 (over $656.26)

We also put $300 into our emergency fund.

Speaking of which, I thought that our emergency fund was joint but apparently it was only in DH’s name because you can only have one name on it. I want to be able to save more than just $5,000 so I called ING to see what I can do. They said I can open my own TFSA as well. So that means we can save $10,000 a year tax free – not just $5,000! I was very excited to do that. So I opened that account as well as a regular Investment Savings Account that pays the same amount of interest (which we will be taxed on, but that’s okay, I expected that).

One more thing – WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!!! We went to sign the lease today. We move in May 16th – yes, 2 weeks from now. Ahhhh! Lots to do, now I won’t be bored anymore!

Well, CVS had Rimmel mascara buy 1 get 1 free and there is a coupon for a free Rimmel mascara in the April issue of All You magazine. That’s how I got two for free. I doubt I could do it again if I tried!

Yaaay! I’m so excited for you getting the house. By the way, I totally thought about you when I went shopping the other day. I’m not incredibly good at couponing like you. You’re insane! But I did manage to score two free tubes of mascara and a free ky jelly! I thought, “Hmmm, Cassie would be proud!”
