No Frills Canada Price Match Policy

If a competitor offers a lower price on any item that we carry in our store, simple show us an advertisement or receipt and we will sell you that item at the same price.

We will match the competitor’s price only during the effective date of the competitor’s advertisement or within 7 days of the date of the receipt.

  • Item must be identical (defined as same brand, size and attributes) and for produce, meat and bakery items, we reserve the right to determine a comparable item.
  • ‘Our major competitors’ and ‘geographical trade areas’ are determined solely by us and are based on a number of factors which can change from time to time.
  • Excludes multi-buys (eg. 2 for $4), ‘spend x, get x’, free, and discounts obtained through loyalty programs.

I started price matching 2 years ago at No Frills every Saturday. First the cashiers were confused, then they got used to me.

Certain cashiers had supervisor overrides for price matching over 8 items codes. I became familiar with those as I always had at least 12 PM items.

I tried a human experiment by “dressing up” to go grocery shopping. White blouse, black pants. Like a waitress. I received friendly service and had less discussions about coupons when dressed better. It didn’t matter if the cashiers were new, old or my regular cashier.
I put on mommy clothes (jeans, Tshirt, pony tail) and had difficulty with multiple coupons and Pm. Sad but true.

I also tried another experiment. Male cashiers, new or old employees, don’t care and just want to get on with the job. Female employees, new or very experienced, think you are taking advantage of the No Frills Policy and scrutinize every coupon.

I’ve even had a Supervisor called over when trying to get President Choice Points for the No Frills bring your own bag policy. I claimed 20 bags. The supervisor reviewed the amount of money I had spent (not realizing I had many freebies, she didn’t actually count the bags) and told me I didn’t use 20 bags. She called me “ignorant” several times in front of 2 employees and 3 customers. (I had told the people behind me I was going to be an extra 5-10 minutes as I was PMing. They wanted to wait and watch).

In the end I think the attitude you project and your personal appearance are instantly judged and the cashiers, being human, respond accordingly.

I apologize on behalf of cashiers. I myself am one at No Frills in Brantford, and would never judge a person by their appearance. To me, everyone needs a break on saving money in this day and age. It shouldn’t matter if you look rich or if you look like you just climbed out of bed. I do it myself..and have been working on getting free or close to free deals almost all day today! lol
I’ve heard many horror stories about cashiers, and I always marvel at how some people are treated. I look at it as going the other way..if I was a customer I would want to be treated just as equal as if it was myself serving me. (did that make sense?) 😛

Been to No Frills today for the first time. While we got awesome deals because of the big $1 sale, they won’t allow PM and coupon at the same time. So nope, I’m not travelling that far for that. I’ll stick to Superstore and Walmart.

I price match with coupons at No Frills all the time. I think it really depends on the cashier you get and the rules they decide to make up that day.

  3. Deb says:

I was just at No Frills in Blenheim. Wanted to buy eggs for a price match price of 1.99 at Shoppers. Cashier said no and the Diary mgr said yes. They need to get their sh….t together. Cashier was very rude. Done shopping at NO FRILLS, where I shop twice a week!!!! I will price match at Walmart. NO WONDER THE U.S. STORES ARE DO SO WELL HERE AND THE CANADIAN STORES ARE NOT!!!

  4. William says:

I was just in the No Frills by White Oaks in Whitby, ON and wanted to by 6 cans of a certain item, to be price matched to Freshco’s flyer. The cashier told me in a very officious manner that I can get the price match for up to 4 items. I laughed and told her to take 2 of them back. I paid for my items and left.
Then, just out of spite, I went back into the store and bought 4 more of the same item.
The lesson here, No Frills, is that you balked at giving me a price match on 6 items, but I made you do it for 8!

I like the no frills in Brantford because it is big, always has lots of the specials and is clean. Went there today and tried to price match with a Fortino’s flyer. The cashier wrote it all up and called someone to approve it and she looked at the cashier and said they didn’t price match Fortino’s because Brantford didn’t have any Fortino’s stores. I asked her about the slogan on the back of her cashier’s t-shirt that said “find a lower price and we will match it”. She just shrugged and said it was up to each store owner and they wouldn’t match Fortino’s. So for 50 cents she lost a customer who came from out of town on a regular basis to this store. Like other people have said “Hello Walmart ” where you don’t get hassled and they stand behind there guarantees…

  6. Skyler says:

Will No frills price match some stores other then grocery stores? Eg. Toys r us?

  7. Sue says:

I was wondering if you price match from an item in a Zehrs flyer? They are part of the same PC family but there is one item in there that is a much better price and we only a No Frills close to me, the Zehrs is 40 minutes away.

  8. Sue says:

I was just at NoFrills in Whitby, Ont. I was buying the 6 pack of bottle Sprite. I was going to price match Shoppers Drug Mart’s price of $2.29. Then the cashier asked me is that a two day soon. I said yes Saturday and Sunday. She said we don’t price match 2 day sales. I said even though today is Sunday. She said yes that is what the owner had said, we only price the rest of the week price. That is so funny cause next door is a Shoppers Drug Mart. I asked where does it say that. She said that is what the owner has said. These grocery stores need to come up with written policies and keep them by the cashiers. I guess these days consumers are never right.

  9. Pat mckown says:

Have used no frills for years and was told today in no uncertain manner they would only price match walmart and lob laws and to read the very fine print on your flyers no need any more sha,l stick to walmart from now on

  10. Josie says:

Will no frills price match zehr’s or foodland’s prices?

  11. I want to give price matching, I’ve never done it before. Do I take in the entire flyer of the different stores? And what would be the most efficient way? Thanks

  12. Frank O says:

Tired to price match today at No Frills Oshawa 151 Bloor St E and was told they don’t price match with Food Basics a store 10 to 15 minuets away. Thanks No Frills! You are now my last choice when it comes to food shopping.

  13. amanda says:

There is no food basics left in Oshawa that I’d why no frills will not pm with them anymore
