  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #11 Update

I was really looking forward to purging my clothing today because I have so much of it.

I have maternity clothes, normal clothes and “in the middle” clothes. It’s a bit crazy.

I found a few things that were stained or ripped and those went into the trash (my husband found a few items as well).

Here’s my pile of clothing to be donated – I can’t believe I had so much stuff in my dresser that I wasn’t even wearing.

I keep my pajamas in the top drawer:

Then my tank tops and t-shirts below:

My capris and pants are in the bottom drawer:

I also have one drawer in a separate dresser that holds clothing that is a bit small now, but I hope to fit into by the time of the half-marathon in November. If it doesn’t fit by then, it’s going to be donated as well.

I sew together memory quilts with my children’s old shirts and some pants if they hold a special memory. It’s very easy and 100% of the quilts in my home are homemade from our old clothes. I use the kids old baby blankets for the backings of their quilts and get a lot of my materials passed down from family or on sale at fabric stores. My husband has his own which he put in a special request for and I have two maternity quilts for myself made from the shirts I wore during each of my pregnancies. For birthdays and special occasions I incorporate clothing as well as photos ( made with iron on transfers ) for quilts as gifts and I get quite a few orders as well.
Inexpensive and practical. The scrap material I use as rags to clean the house rather than using paper towels.
There are so many things you can do with your old clothes! My husbands XL shirts I sew into dresses for myself (womens size small LOL) Old sweaters into pillows. Old bathrobes into doggie beds… Get creative and what you can’t use donate!

My street holds a kids clothing swap every May/June the day before our street sale and party. It’s a friendly way to pass on what’s too small and maybe pick up some items for the growing kids. As soon as the street sale is over, all left over items are trucked over to the local charity shop. Many of the kids over 8 set up their own booths to sell their toys and games and earn some spending money. Money is a great motivator to move things along they no longer play with.

Frugal tip: Instead of throwing away stained or ripped clothing, cut them up and use them as rags. :)

I cleaned my closet today. I got two bags full of clothes to give away. I took out my summer clothes and put away all the winter clothes. I have my daughters winter coat in the wash so it can be packed away to sell. I organized my purses and i already dropped off the two bags at thrift store, so no changing my mind.
What a good day. I feel accomplished today.

I have so much clothing I want to go through but I am 4 months pregnant and I am hoping that since this is my last pregnancy that after the baby weight is gone (That’s not for a while at least) I’ll be doing a massive sorting through my clothes and hubby’s too. Anything that won’t fit at my goal weight will be donated. It’s true what you said a while back, we only wear 20% of our clothing.

I recognize myself in the “maternity, normal and middle clothes. (My son is 11 weeks). I have pile everywhere; to give, to sell, to keep in case of a third baby…
