  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #17 Update

I have been looking forward to today’s task all week!

There have been quite a few times when we’ve been out and needed something that we didn’t have with us in our van, so I wanted to fix that.

No before photos, because somehow, our van was actually pretty clean. It just needed a quick vacuum and some more organization.

We used to have 2 small reusable bags that held some extra diapers, wipes and emergency items, but we now have this fantastic bin:

    Inside we have the following:
    - 2 Towels (For big messes – usually made by our dog!)
    - Blanket
    - First Aid Kit
    - Extra Swaddling Blanket
    - Extra Clothes for the Kids
    - 1 Bag of Emergency Gear
    - 1 Bag of Toddler Entertainment, Water, Diapers & Wipes
    - 1 Bin with Odds & Ends

This is what is in the wipes container:
    - Hand Sanitizer
    - Baby Powder
    - Extra Grocery Bags (For dirty diapers or clothing)
    - Toilet Seat Covers & Bathroom Tissue (You never know when you might need these!)
    - Small Bag of Snacks

Here is what you can find inside the 2 small bags:

The bin sits nicely in the back of our van. I keep my reusable bags in a large bag and it hangs on a hook. Any time I keep them on the floor they fall out, so I like to hang them.

Our centre console just holds facial tissue (and some napkins underneath).

The only thing in our glove compartment is our car manual. I want to put an umbrella in there as well, but I couldn’t seem to find one today.

I also keep a few books for Elliott in the back pocket of one of the seats. These help to keep him occupied on longer road trips.

Oh, and just for fun, here’s me vacuuming the van before I organized it:

    1. Great Article Mrs J.
Your Van is ready to hit to road for summer time! :)

Ours is a little different. No kids but a boxer who goes everywhere. LouLou has her own bag. Blanket, towel, bowl, treats, bottled water, extra leash and collar, for longer trips she takes her doggie luggage, dog first aid kit, coat and boots (winter months) and a book that lists dog friendly motels.

teachermum: Thanks for the advice, I didn’t even think of that!

Just a note: you might want to swap out the crayons for pencil crayons for the summer (I have seen small ones at the dollar stores before). The summer heat in a van is not kind to them…I can still picture the small new box of them that was left on the back ledge when we were on vacation as kids…it wasn’t pretty and we didn’t get new stuff often-bummer!

I love this idea! I’ve been wanting to make a bin for my car as well and I love the activity ideas :)

      BTW, you look great :)

    6. Betty says:

for the winter months, it might be a good idea to put some cat litter, small shovel, blanket, flares, & more snacks in case you get stuck in the snow, get stranded on the hwy. during a blizzard, etc. (cat litter is to throw under your vehicle if you need some traction; better than salt as it will not cause rust on your vehicle if it leaks). Cat Litter is also good to put weight on back axles for more traction (although most vehicles have traction control now).

    7. Faby says:

Thanks, I got some new ideas, love your organization skills!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Great ideas I can’t wait to use!
