  • 3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #8 Update

Today started out really well. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping. I was actually looking forward to cleaning the trash cans.

    That’s when life happened.

Elliott had a few accidents that I had to clean (we just started potty training), and then Kaylee was fussy for about an hour. Then it was lunch time.

The next thing I know it’s 12:30pm and I still hadn’t tackled the trash cans.

When Elliott went down for his nap half an hour later, I emptied all the bins and started to wash them.

3 Weeks to a Spring Clean Home: Task #8 Update

I find it easiest to wash trash cans in the bathtub.

I set them out on the porch to dry, only to bring them in 5 minutes later due to a sudden thunderstorm that decided to stop by.

Because of all the rain, I couldn’t get to the outside trash can (I don’t like washing it in the garage), so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

At least the indoor trash cans are clean!

A tip my mom gave me: keep an extra trash bag at the bottom of the bin so you have a replacement the next time you take out the trash.

Added to my growing list of things to catch up on….lol…i will catch up I promise. Keep up the great work everyone!!

    2. Betty says:

small garbage pails: When I clean weekly, I always empty all garbage bags, spray the inside & outside of the pails with fantastik/clorox, let them sit for a few minutes & then take my rag & wipe them down inside & out. Let them dry & put another bag in (I recycle the grocery bags).

Outside garbage pails: don’t have these anymore but when we did, I would leave them in the garage, put some bleach & dish detergent & lug a 2 or 3 buckets of hot water & pour them in. Then I’d take a new corn broom & swish everything around & scrub with the corn broom. Then I’d dump the water down the driveway & put pails in the sun to dry. Course the corn broom would be wrecked so we’d let it dry off & use it in the winter to clean the snow off the vehicles.

everybody’s got a different system but it worked for me.

    3. Have done this one already with my Spring cleaning earlier this year.
And yes, hospitals, hotels, and such will place garbage bags under the bags already in the can.
Seems like we are both as equally organized!

New house = new garbage cans. Don’t trust the previous homeowners with their germs. It may have been more expensive but knowing my family doesn’t get unnecessarily sick is worth the price.
So no cleaning for me, but instead I swept the house and mopped.
Life happens! I wanted to sweep and mop on Monday but had a bad day with my 18 month old daughter. She woke up at 7am and didn’t nap at all until 6pm. She was so cranky and I was exhausted

I did my garbage cans today too! I just am letting them dry. I keep going to throw stuff out and there’s nothing there right now! haha

    6. Sandra says:

Haha, so I am not that much of a clean freak and the only one who cleans out my garbage pails… You are making feel bad with all your cleaning, it’s lighting a fire under my butt to get me going, not to mention I keep seeing our neighbour out doing yard work… My list keeps getting longer these days, plus renovations I want to get done… Great cleaning by the way!!!

Life happens! I think that you are a super mom for being able to tackle these tasks while having a 6 week old and a 2 1/2 year old. My youngest is one and I have not had the energy to tackle to many of these tasks. Love the task list so far, just have to put my nose to the ground.

    8. Debby says:

I keep a snuggle sheet at the bottom of my kitchen garbage, so it doesn’t get too stinky!

    9. shallyn Pridmore says:

I always go to the dollerstore and grab the draw string bags that are rolled up and I always have one at the bottom of every garbage can then when I get low I know I need grab more :)

    10. Rhonda Miller says:

I do the same thing (leaving an extra bag or 2 at the bottom of the can) … I learned this by watching the employees changing out garbage at both Timmies and McDonalds.. lol.. it is sooooooooo much easier lol
