  • I Failed at Winter Glove Stockpiling

  • I am always on the lookout for a better way to do things as a mom.

More effective. More efficient. Just more.

When I stumbled upon another mom’s suggestion to buy several pairs of the same gloves at year end, I thought that was sheer brilliance.

    Bright Idea

If one gets lost, you can swap it out for another one. Crisis averted.

Because I am a quick understudy, I did exactly that. Scored three pairs of black/blue waterproof gloves.

Entered this winter season practically invincible.

Even my most frequent loser (los·er: noun 1. a person who permanently misplaces items their mama purchases) would not be able to thwart this well-stocked glove collection.

    Apparently I was wrong.

    Winter Gloves

In spite of my best efforts to stockpile gloves, my son lost all 3 right-hand gloves.

So, does anyone have a DIY project that involves 3 lefties?

I Failed at Winter Glove Stockpiling

Big LOL! We are down to one matching pair each for both our boys. I was so frustrated I did the lost and found at school last week but came up empty handed or should I say gloved. I am on the lookout for next years needs but I going to try your suggestion and buy the exact same gloves times six and hope for the best.

Keep up the great Mom Mysteries I look forward to all your insights.

Or maybe we should stick to mitts – let’s try to convince our big kids that mitts are cool so we don’t have the “thumb on the wrong side of the glove” issue. :)

about stock piling gloves – I was with you the whole way till i read that your little on lost all right handed gloves!!! too funny!

    3. Kirsteen says:

You gave me a good laugh today, thank-you…!!!

    4. heather says:

What about using the leftover left mitten on halloween scarecrows or decorations. Every year we make a “scary” man on our porch with old overalls etc. You could stuff one glove and put the other “hand” in the pocket.

    5. Leslie says:

I heard a story where a mother would every year knit her grown daughter a lovely pair of mittens…hat and scarf to match. Every winter she manages to lose one mitten…somewhere, Mom decided to gift her this year a lovely hat, scarf and THREE mittens. (needless to say she hasn’t lost her usual mitten this year!). Lol.

      • Karen says:

That is awesome. Perhaps we are onto something. Manufacturers should sell mitts in three’s. Off to Dragon’s Den to pitch the idea and get yelled at by Kevin. :)

    6. Diane says:

Too funny! It is nice to know I am not alone in the world of left handed gloves.

    7. Arteme says:

When I was a kid, every single kid in school had a piece of yarn threaded through the arms of their coat, and gloves or mittens attached to each end. Has this gone out of fashion? It was very practical!

    8. Karen says:

The “hero” of this story agrees with you. Mismatched gloves should definitely be the rage.

    9. D says:

Laughed our loud at your post!!! We are stockpilers of mittens/gloves/hats too… with 4 monkeys it seems like someone is constantly misplacing so I can relate. The key is to purchase a CRAZY number at end of season bargain prices… only then you will be invincible (and Murphy’s law is usually when you buy too tons of one thing no one will lose anything). Thanks for sharing.

      • Karen says:

Glad to make you smile. Misery loves company. Will definitely buy a crazier number to stock up properly. Better start watching for deals!

    10. Anne says:

Been there, done that. My kids are now grown. At the end of the season I used buy several of the same gloves for this exact situation. It works for socks too. I would always buy several packages of the same socks so there was always a replacement instead of having to throw out a sock.

      • Karen says:

I love the sock idea. Much better to buy exact same plain socks. At least they don’t make left-footed socks :)
